Vintage cyclists take on a historic 300km journey
Coonamble Riverside Holiday Park recently played host to a celebration of the town’s rich shearing history, welcoming 20 vintage cyclists for the 10th Annual Shearers Ride! The event saw participants journey along the old shearer routes, covering roughly 300 kilometres.
Starting their journey from Baradine, the cyclists rode through the countryside, passing through Gulargambone, Armitree, and Tooraweenah before returning to their starting point.
The vintage bicycles, reminiscent of early 1900s models, added a touch of authenticity to the ride and reflected the spirit of days gone by.
Sue Sealby, Park Manager at Coonamble Riverside Holiday Park, said, “It was a pleasure hosting the Shearers Ride cyclists. The riders’ dedication to honouring the town’s heritage and exploring its scenic landscapes was beautiful to see.
“During their stay, some cyclists chose to rest in the park’s sheds to avoid the morning dew, while others enjoyed camping under the stars. A makeshift camp kitchen and BBQ facilities ensured riders had a comfortable experience and were fueled up before their adventures,” Sue explained.
Since its launch in 2014, the event has grown in popularity, attracting cycling enthusiasts eager to experience Coonamble’s unique charm.
